Joey Sammut
Artist
Joey Sammut is a Southern California-based ceramic artist and collector. Working primarily with the potter's wheel, cuerda seca, and mosaics, he blends traditional techniques with contemporary narratives inspired by California's artistic history, automotive culture, and personal storytelling.
His experience at Laguna Art Museum exposed him to a range of artists and ideas, shaping his curiosity and craft. Joey trained under Richard White and Marlo Bartels and has contributed to major public art projects across California, including Blackstone in Brea-Bartels' largest installation-permanent works for the Diocese of Orange's House of Prayer for Priests, and the Mathews Street Park project in Boyle Heights with artist Mike Saijo.
Alongside his studio work, Joey curates The Sammut Collection, an archive of artworks and objects that reflect his journey through the art world. His collection includes a wide range of cups made by ceramic artists he's met over the years, highlighting his deep connection to the creative community.
