More Than A Happy Hour

Once a month  the Pelican Art Circle gathers for what feels more like a cocktail mixer than a formal art event. It’s a happy hour setting where collectors, patrons, educators, artists, and the simply curious come together, not to impress, but to connect.

There’s no gatekeeping, no intimidating “art speak,” and no expectation that you know the difference between Abstract Expressionism and Conceptual Art. Whether you live in galleries or just like the vibe of being around creative people, you’re welcome here.

What makes the group special is its diversity of experience, background, and perspective. Some come to talk art, others just come for the conversation. Either way, art is the common thread that pulls everyone into the room.

Looking ahead, the Pelican Art Circle plans to venture out to artist studios and galleries across Orange County and Los Angeles, keeping the spirit casual, curious, and open to all.

The PAC

Pelican Art Circle exists to create an open, independent space for artists, collectors, and the art-curious to connect, explore, and experience art together.

What Next

To bring together artists and art lovers in a space that’s welcoming, unpretentious, and full of joy, new friendships, and unexpected adventures in art.

How This Started

I didn’t set out to start some official art group. I just kept noticing something: there were people who should absolutely know each other, artists, collectors, patrons, the art curious, but somehow, they had never met. I would go to shows, studio visits, museum events, and it hit me that there was all this creative energy floating around, but very little actual connection.

I am on the Collection Committee at Laguna Art Museum and the Governing Board at Laguna College of Art and Design, but that does not mean I have all the answers. I am still figuring things out myself. What I do know is that art has a way of bringing people together if given the right space.

Pelican Art Circle is my way of creating that space. It is informal, social, and open. No gatekeeping, no pressure to get it right. Just real conversations, introductions, and the chance to learn from one another. I believe the older and younger generations have a lot to offer each other, and that sometimes all it takes is being in the same room for something meaningful to start.

There is something exciting about watching people connect over shared interests, about giving someone a way in. I am learning as I go, but the energy feels right, and that is enough reason to keep it going.

We’d love to have you join us. If you’re looking to connect with others who care about art, whether you’re just getting started or have been around it for years, come be part of it. Show up, meet some new people, and see what happens. It’s casual, welcoming, and open to anyone who’s curious.

I look forward to meeting you,

Elizabeth Wallen
